Is that a Commodore 64 and a 1541 floppy drive?! CNET really rifled through their closets to build the backdrop for this segment but it gets the point across. Choose a responsible recycler to dispose of your unwanted electronics this holiday season.

TechnoCycle can help whether you are an individual or a represent a business. What we won’t do is throw it out, burn it, recycle it overseas, or send it to someone who will. We have been working with BAN for almost a year to ensure our compliance with their standards and look forward to an upcoming third part audit to become fully recognized as an e-Steward. But that does not mean that we are waiting to become compliant. We are compliant, have been compliant, and will continue to uphold clean and fair environmental standards.

It is reassuring to see a company like CNET, know for its reputable reviews and technology-savvy outlook, picking up on whistleblowers like 60 Minutes to increase awareness. The one questionable point in this segment is Jon’s assertion that just “hanging on” to e-waste is a viable solution. Through recycling or resale those old electronics will find new life and reduce your carbon footprint. In your closet they just represent new electronics that must be built, or new raw materials that must be mined, to fill an ever growing global demand for gadgets.
